• Visit Tian’an Men Square and understand it’s historical and cultural importance. This public square is one of the largest in the world and has been the site of numerous historical events in China
• Enter the Forbidden City, where emperors ruled, concubines and eunuchs lived and schemed for five hundred years. The Palace Museum is now the best-preserved palace complex in China. (closed on Mondays, alternative Lama Temple and Confucious Temple in case tickets are sold out in peak season)
• Lunch at local restaurant
• Visit the Temple of Heaven, widely regarded as the noblest example of religious architectures in China. See activities i.e. Taiji, ribbon dance, sword dance, water calligraphy.
• Visit the marriage market. Across numerous Chinese cities, marriage markets have gained significant popularity. In a culture where many are labeled as 996 employees- working from 9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week—– socializing opportunities are scarce. This predicament has led concerned parents to initiate marriage market, a place where they gather in hopes of finding suitable matches for their children

21 Feb Beijing
• Breakfast at hotel
• Drive to Huanghuacheng, literally meaning “Yellow Flower.” It is the only Great Wall section that is submerged in water. It’s most scenic section of the Great wall, and a great place to go for a not-too-strenuous hike along the country’s most iconic landmark.

• Visit a Jade Carving Factory
• Transfer back to hotel

• After breakfast at hotel, tour Beijing’s intricate alleyway ‘Hutongs’ in style,
• Walk and take some street food if you like. Get lost in Beijing’s hutongs which, both antiquated and interwoven, make up the fabric of Beijing’s central avenues.
• Lunch at local restaurant
• Transfer to Beijing West Railway Station
• Take high-speed train to Xi’an (2nd class seat)
• Arrival in Xi’an and greeted by your local guide at the station
• Transfer to hotel for check in

24 Feb Xi’an
• After breakfast at hotel, visit the Terracotta Warrior Museum, a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The human sized figures were modelled after actual soldiers of the Qin Army.
• Educational visit to a Terracotta Warrior Factory to learn more about the complex production process (unchanged from Qin dynasty times) of these fascinating artworks. You may have the opportunity to visit one of the farmers who discovered Terra-cotta, and listen to the stories he has to tell. (*He’s over 80 now and he can meet with group as long as his health condition allows)
• Lunch at a local Chinese restaurant
• Walk along the Muslim Street
• Transfer back to hotel

25 Feb Xian
• Breakfast at hotel
• Drive to Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and one of the oldest surviving structures of its kind in China (excl. climb the tower).
• Lunch at famous Defachang dumpling restaurant, where the dumplings are made in different shapes and colors.
• Visit Xian City Wall, it is one of the oldest and best-preserved among the few remaining Chinese city walls.
• Overnight in Xian

• Stop at the sublime Yu Garden, located in the old city center. The gardens and their surroundings are a wonderful example of classical design. Constructed 400 years ago in the Ming Dynasty, the colossal city of Shanghai has sprung up around this older relative but left it to grow old peacefully, providing a fascinating window into the past.
• Visit to Lujiazui Area, – the largest financial zone in mainland China,
• Lunch at a local Chinese restaurant.
• Visit the Bund. With an iconic skyline famous throughout the worldfrom across the Bund River bank.
• Visit the Former French Concession, a foreign concession from late 18th to early 20th century. Till today, you can still find the Catholic cathedrals and houses of European style, which gives the area a distinct character.
• Visit Silk factory

• Set out for Xinchang Water Town today. See the canals, old houses, and bridges winding through its streets.

DO I NEED A VISA FOR CHINA?
Australian passport holders do require a visa to enter China. It is each passenger’s responsibility to ensure they have the correct documentation for all countries however, we can guide you as to the best manner to go about obtaining your visa.
CAN I WALK THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA?
It would take weeks to walk the entire extent of the Great Wall. Therefore, Touchdown Tours has broken down this experience into sections, to ensure that you can take in small sections of this great walk without over-exertion.
WILL I FIND ATMs IN CHINA?
ATMs are pretty scarce in China. It is best to have with you local currency, or money that you can exchange at a local bank or money exchange kiosk.
