DAY 4 : Explore the coastline, passing Glyfada, Vouligmeni, and Varkiza Beaches. Visit Cape Sounion – Poseidon Temple – Time for artistic expression (painting, sketching, photography)

DAY 5 : Set out for the mystical village of Arachova – Sanctuary of Delphi. The afternoon is free for you to explore Arachova village or enjoy more time partaking in artistic expression.

DAY 6 : Meteora Monasteries – a small town nestled at the foot of gigantic rocks and rock cliffs – Byzantine art. Time for artistic expression.

DAY 7 : Travel to the university town of Ioannina, an exquisitely beautiful city in northern Greece. Ali Pasha Mosque of the then Ottoman ruler – Byzantine & Archaeological Museums. Time for artistic expression.

DAY 8 : Vikos Gorge – Explore surrounding towns and villages, including the Zagoria – Authentic Greek experience. Cobblestoned streets and tiny stone houses, untouched by modern life around them. Explore Vikos Gorge, the deepest canyon in the world.

Day 9 : Ioannina – Famous for its silversmithery – Attend a local silversmith at work creating traditional hand-made items. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore further. Time for artistic expression.

Day 10 : Set out for the seaside town of Parga – Leisure time for swimming in the pristine waters – Afternoon at leisure; time for artistic expression.

Day 11 : Return to Athens. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 12 : Santorini – one of the most famous islands in the world. It is indeed like another planet here, the breath-taking views have been painted, sketched, and photographed by artists and ley people alike for centuries.
Late afternoon coach trip to the tip of the island and explore the township of Oia, known as “paradise on Earth.” It is where artists and photographers the world over gather every evening to watch the majestic sunset.

DAY 13 : Visit the local art galleries including AK and Mati Galleries for some extra inspiration. You will be guided by the curators. Time for personal artistic expression.

DAY 14 : Three Islands Cruising – Hydra – Posos – Aegina.

DAY 15 : Morning at leisure to pack or enjoy the city some more before transferring to Athens airport for your return flight to Melbourne.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

MARY RAPHAEL – ARTIST

Mary is a distinguished artist who was born in north-western Greece and migrated to Australia when she was still a child with her family. She loves to travel to explore new horizons and capture her experiences on the canvas.
From 2007 to 2009 she lived and worked in Darwin and became a member of the Territory Craft -Tactile Arts Group. She has extensively travelled the Northern Territory, Kakadu, Daly River, Uluru and much more. At Daly River, she came across the local Aboriginal Community where she took part in workshops there.
The Australian Outback has strongly influenced her artwork.

MUST I BE AN ARTIST TO JOIN THIS TOUR?

Definitely not! In fact, we welcome all travellers on this tour. While there will be many opportunities for artistic expression throughout this tour, Mary welcomes everyone who has a love of art and culture, and wants to explore the “real” Greece with her.

WHAT ACCOMMODATION IS USED ON THIS TOUR?

Pricing is based on twin-share, but you may pay a supplement if you wish to have your own room throughout the tour (please contact us for details). Accommodation is, as much as possible, in traditional-style hotels to give you a truly authentic experience.

ARE ENTRANCE FEES INCLUDED?

All entrance fees to sites and museums mentioned in the itinerary are included, as is the service of a professional guide to give you depth and insight into the cultural heritage that is Greece.

CAN I MAKE MY OWN WAY TO ATHENS AND JOIN THE GROUP THERE?

You can definitely make your own way to Athens and meet the group there. It is always best if you are with the group from the commencement of their arrival which, in this case, will be 3rd September 2019.
