The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships were held in Penang, Malaysia, between 24th – 30th November 2013. Our Director, Jaqui Preketes, attended the Opening Ceremony and spoke at the inaugural congress before representatives of the 53 commonwealth nations. Touchdown Tours announced our support for the sport of weightlifting by means of sponsorship to the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation.
Dubbed “The 2013 Penang Weightlifting Festival”, it was nothing short of amazing. For the first time ever, the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships also included the Junior Championships and the World Cup Masters Championships, bringing a total of 96 nations, competitors and athletes under the one roof. World records and Commonwealth records were smashed, tears were shed, both of joy and disappointment, but one thing was for certain – humanity can come together through sport, where there is an even playing field.
It is our sincere pleasure to be associated with the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, supporting all athletes in bringing out the very best in themselves for the nations they represent.
