Depart for Jabrin, the finest of Oman’s castles built in the late 17th Century which became a seat of Omani learning. The castle displays the highest achievement in Omani ceiling painting and beautifully executed wood-carvings. The next stop is at Wadi Nakher located in the deepest canyon. While heading for Jebel Shams stop at the terrace farming village of Wadi Ghul. In the Jebel Akhdar Range, Jebel Shams is the highest peak and offers a spectacular view. Visit Misfah, a pretty mountain village with stone dwellings still in existence. Dinner and overnight stay at The View.
Visit the Nizwa Round Tower Fort & Nizwa Souq. Drive to the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the lush, green date plantations. Proceed to Wadi Al Madeen and from there a 36km stretch of winding road will take you to Jebel Al Akhdar (2000 M above sea level). This is referred to as the Green Jewel of the Al Hajjar Mountain Ranges and occupies a truly unique spot in the Arabian Peninsula. Enjoy the cool mountain air. Al Jebel Al Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards, typically lid out terrace style along the slopes of mountains which are endowed with natural springs and aflaj. The villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib (village of the old houses) and Al Ain, dot the landscape.
Depart for the Wahiba Sands, a vast mass of undulating red and white sea of dunes rising up to 200 metres and are host to a variety of flora and fauna. The ever changing patterns of the dunes are a photographer’s delight. Overnight stay in Bedouin tents at the 1001 Night Camp.
Breakfast at the camp then enjoy a spot of dine driving in the Wahiba Sands. Take a turn off the main road to the scenic Wadi Bani Khalid with its deep blue pools of water fringed by date palms which is an ideal spot to relax or enjoy a refreshing swim. Proceed to Ras Al Haad and check in to your hotel. In the evening there will be a short drive to the Ras Al Jinz Scientific Centre where you will be escorted to the beach by trained guides to watch the turtles nesting in the sands. Overnight stay at the Ras Al Jinz Scientific & Visitors Centre.
Breakfast. Proceed to Sur and visit the ruins of Bibi Miriam’s (Virgin Mary’s) Tomb at the village of Qalhat. Stop at Fins Beach for a swim and then onto Bimah Sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue-green water at the bottom. On clear sunny days while driving along the coast one mught happen to see sharks in the water or fleet footed gazelle sprint across the landscape. Proceed to Wadi AL Arbayeen with its refreshing deep pools of water set among the date palms. Return to Muscat.
