The city’s golden age came under Roman rule and the site is now acknowledged as one of the best preserved ancient provincial towns in the world. A fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East, Jerash comprises paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, spectacular theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates. En route back to Amman, visit King Abdulla Mosque, the Citadel Of Amman, and the Roman Amphitheatre Also take in two significant Jordanian museums and enjoy a panoramic tour to the old and new parts of Amman. (B)

DAY 3 Amman – Madaba – Mt. Nebo – Dead Sea – Petra

Set out for Madaba today. Madaba city is known for its exquisitely preserved Byzantine mosaics, many of which can be seen in their original locations on ancient church floors, precisely where they stood centuries ago. Madaba’s real masterpiece, in the Orthodox Church of Saint George, is the 6th century AD mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land – the earliest religious map of the Holy Land in any form to survive from antiquity. Continue onto Mt. Nebo, where Moses gazed at the Promised Land before he died. Mt. Nebo is also believed to be his burial place. Visit the old monastery, and enjoy the unique scenery overlooking the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem. En route to Petra, we will travel via the Dead Sea. Time permitting, take a dip in the sea. Spend relaxing afternoon at the lowest point on earth before driving to Petra. (B)

DAY 4 Petra – Aqaba

Today’s highlight is a visit to the Rose Red City of Petra, first established in the 6th century BCE by the Nabatean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and founded a commercial empire. You may begin your journey on horseback or by foot through the canyon or Siq. As you walk through the breathtaking canyon, you suddenly see before you Petra’s most famous monument: the Treasury. From here you have time to explore the city on your own; you can see the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh’s Castle. Return to your hotel in Amman and overnight. (B)

DAY 5 Aqaba – Wadi Rum – Aqaba

This morning is at leisure to unwind and relax before we head into the desert of Wadi Rum, and enjoy a two-hour 4×4 jeep ride. Wadi Rum is the largest and most stunning of Jordan’s desert landscapes. In these ancient valleys, the elements of nature have modelled and carved out this panorama, leaving strips of scorched earth and vibrant natural colours. Return to your hotel in Aqaba. (B)

DAY 6 Aqaba – Kerak – Amman

Another relaxing morning with time for a swim if you wish! Drive onwards to Kerak Castle.
