Day 1: Morning Muscat City Tour – Jebel Akhdar
Set out to visit the magnificent Grand Mosque (open Sat – Thur), one of the largest in the world (please dress conservatively). Afterwards, head to the Bait Zubair Museum, which was originally founded as a hobby by a rich merchant who had a passion for local antiques and photography.
Continue your drive to the official royal palace, Al Alam, flanked by two Portuguese forts, Jalali and Mirani. After a brief viewing, you will set out for the glorious mountains of Jebel Akhdar.
Visit the local date plantation at Birkat Al Mauaz and walk through the old village and farms and learn about the old Falaj irrigation system. Arriving at the top of the mountains, head further into Jebel Akhdar where we will overnight. (B/L/D)
Day 2: Jebel Akhtar – Nizwa – Wahiba Sands
Head for the former Omani capital of Nizwa, once the centre of the Julanda Dynasty. Visit the local Nizwa Souq (local market stalls) and see traditional life taking place before your eyes. This Souq is famous for its silverware, especially the hand-crafted Omani Khanjar.
Visit Nizwa Fort before continuing your drive to the vast desert expanse of the Wahiba Sands and drive through the undulating sand dunes. Overnight at our Wahiba Sands campsite. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Wahiba Sands – Wadi Bani Khaled – Ras Al Jinz
As you set out for Wadi Bani Khaled, you will also visit a genuine Bedouin home. Get to know more about life in the desertand share Omani coffee and dates.
Arriving at the natural, green oasis of Wadi Bani Khaled, enjoy a walk in the wadi, or swim in natural green water oasis (remember to bring your swimming gear!)
Drive towards Sur and check-in at the turtle reserve at Ras Al Jinz. This evening, see the green back turtles coming to nest (not guaranteed).(B/L/D)
Day 4: Ras Al Had – Sur – Wadi Tiwi – Fins Beach – Wadi Arbyn – Muscat
Drive to Sur this morning, the dhow-building city of Oman, before heading for Wadi Tiwi, a magnificent plantation of fruit trees in traditional mountain villages.
Continue onto Fins Beach, also known as “the white beach” where you can enjoy
a swim in the crystal clear waters as you also enjoy a picnic lunch. Visit the sink hole,
a spectacular limestone crater with blue green water.
Later, enjoy an off-road drive in Wadi Arbyn and then drive towards Quriyat Village and return to your hotel in Muscat. (B/L)
